Big" News For Fat Freddy's Fans by: Patrick Daniels

The New Zealand band, Fat Freddy's Drop, has a unique sound with a blend of Jazz, Reggae, and Hi Tek Soul. Since their debut album in 2005, they have continued to soar to stardom and have toured the globe three times.

The release of Dr. Boondigga & the Big BW was an anticipated album with high hopes. With its electric collection of songs, with a story, meditative pieces and pieces that are fun, it was well worth the wait. Fan will be able to hear the maturity and life experiences in Fat Freddy's Drop new album, as their music is evolving for the the better.

The song Pull the Catch was actually a song that they wrote while fishing with Dallas uncle. They left in the morning to fish and by the time they returned they were singing this song, and they recorded the demo for it that very same day. The Nod is actually a New Orleans Flavoured song that was inspired by the communal flat that some of the band stayed in about ten years ago. It has a party vibe and is completely entertaining.

My most favourite track on the album is "Big BW" with its tame and meditative sound, that touches you in a way today's music is unable to. However, it in no way, takes anything from the other title track "Boon Digger". With it's vocals from Dallas and deep lyrics it is the perfect compliment to the it's mellower counterpart "Big BW".

This second album shows more of the bands true self, then their first release, and is a more deeper, soulful collection; a must have for all Jazz fans. This is an album that you should definitely check out, even if you never heard of the band. Oh and the album cover have amazing detail, definitely worth the look!
